Melissa joined the Center for Love + Justice in 2020, where she co-leads the New School Creation Fellowship, supports the School ReDesign team, and leads coursework in the M.Ed program. Melissa joined High Tech High as a humanities teacher in 2006 after seven years of teaching at international schools in Cairo, Egypt and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2011, she became the founding director of High Tech Middle Chula Vista (HTMCV) and later served as Director of High Tech Middle Media Arts (HTMMA). After nine years of leading schools, Melissa transitioned into the role of Director of Leadership Development in the HTH GSE.
In addition to her work with the Center for Love + Justice, Melissa enjoys supporting international schools around the world to strengthen their work around Project-Based Learning. She has worked with NIST International School (Bangkok), the American International School of Budapest, and the American School of Barcelona, among others.
Originally from North Carolina, Melissa earned her B.A. in Secondary English Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an M.Ed in Teaching English as a Second Language from George Mason University. In 2010, she earned another M.Ed in School Leadership from HTH's own GSE.
